A mascara deal and a message

Thanks to Kristen, who sent me this message to pass on to you:

"Something you & possibly your readers might be interested in - in the March issue of the All You Magazine (available at Wal-Mart) there is a coupon for a FREE thing of mascara from Rimmel. It's the Sexy Curves mascara...I just picked mine up, haven't tried it yet, but who can resist free mascara? It retails for I think just under $6.50."

So hie thee down to Walmart and give it a shot. Oh, and let us know if you like it; we want to hear reviews from our readers! On another note, we haven't had any Ask & Tells the last couple of weeks because our question count is kind of low. But when we get some built up, we'll post them again. Thanks for reading!

I've got a question - Am I doing something wrong when I put on my L'Oreal Infallible lipstick/gloss? It never seems to look right (smooth), but is impossible to remove completely. Thanks for any advice.

I love your site!! My question - I have a hard time getting lipstick and lipgloss to last longer than an hour so I dont wear it very often because I hate re-applying all day long. Is there something I can use to make it last longer?

Thanks for the kind words - and for the questions. I will do my best to answer them. Mrs. Organic, I think unless you are applying it to your eyes, you probably aren't doing anything wrong. Most of the reviews I read online were positive, so I doubt there's anything really wrong with it. The only tips I can really provide are first - to make sure your lips are well-exfoliated when you apply it. This can be done by gently rubbing them with a wet washcloth in the shower, or gently rubbing them with a toothbrush. As for removing it, according to what I've read in magazines, cover your lips with Vaseline and wait one minute before wiping it off. Waterproof eyeliner can also work wonders.

Kendra - There are a few options you might try. One is to perhaps first apply a stain on your lips that matches your lipstick/lipgloss, then apply your product. That will ensure that when it wears off, there will still be some color underneath. Makeup artists also suggest the same thing with lipliner. What I've done in the past is put a light coat of lipbalm on, then used a liner that matches my lipstick and put it all over my lips - just like I would the actual lipstick. On top of that I apply the lipstick - and it will last forever. Back when matte lipstick was massively popular, it was suggested your apply your lipstick, then dust your lips lightly with translucent powder, and after that apply another coat of lipstick. It works, but it feels like you've smeared Elmer's glue on your lips. As for lipgloss, I've read from one makeup artist to make sure you blot your lips with a tissue before applying - make sure any excess moisture is gone because that will make it wear off before you're even out the door.

Thanks again for the questions - we'll post them on our next Ask & Tell Friday!

Oh, and Mrs. Organic, next time I have some cash floating in my wallet, I'm going to buy some of that Infallible stuff to review!

I went to Walmart to get the magazine and the mascara. Wouldn't you know it, the magazine was there but they didn't seem to carry the mascara. I found the Rimmel stuff and they all kinds of mascara types but not that one. I'm going to have to hit up a few other Walmarts I think.

MichelleSG - That happened to me as well, but it's probably that they are just out of that particular kind. All Wal-Marts *should* carry it because this magazine is only sold at Wal-Mart. I had to go back to my Wal-Mart a few times before it was back in stock.

Just my two cents, but since the Rimmel coupon is a manufacturer's coupon, so you don't just have to use it at Wal-Mart. AND, FYI, CVS is having a B1G1 on their Rimmel products (I don't think all of them, but definitely the mascara), and you can get a mascara, then a free one, then use the coupon for the one you "bought" and not pay a penny, thereby getting two mascaras for free. (And, the store always gets reimbursed for the price of the product when you use the coupon, so don't fret that you're cheating the system, or something.)
